PhD position, Metrology by advanced X-ray Computed Tomography - 2019BAPFWETEF004Posted by: University of Antwerp
Posted date: 2019-Jan-07
The Vision Lab, an fun and exciting research group at the University of Antwerp (http://visielab.uantwerpen.be/ ), has an open position for a PhD student to work on developing innovative image reconstruction methods for X-ray Computed Tomography (CT). Tomography is an image reconstruction technique that leans strongly on large-scale numerical mathematics, particularly linear algebra. It has a wide range of applications in medicine (CT-scans), industry (nondestructive testing) and science (3D imaging of nanomaterials). In your PhD, you will develop ground breaking computational techniques for metrology (science of measurement) based on X-ray scan data from object of which CAD info is available.
The Vision Lab has unique expertise in the development of algorithms for reconstruction, processing and analysis of imaging data. Application domains are X-ray CT, MRI, SPECT and electron Imaging. The working environment is strongly interdisciplinary, combining techniques and insights from Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science. The group has a broad range of national and international collaborations with both academic and industrial partners. Recent Vision Lab publications on tomography can be found on http://visielab.uantwerpen.be/research/tomography.
You have a M.Sc. degree іn thе field οf Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, or Engineering. You love interdisciplinary science, and want nothing more than advancing the field of CT metrology with your creativity and novel solutions. You have a good sense of humor, really like programming to put your findings into practice, and want to tell the world about your findings with sparkling presentations.
Interested candidates are invited to send a motivation letter, a detailed CV (including followed courses, honours, grades, previous work, programming skills, publications, …) and contact info of two references to christine.waerebeekuantwerpen.be with both Prof. J. De Beenhouwer (jan.debeenhouweruantwerpen.be) and Prof. Dr. J. Sijbers, (Jan.Sijbersuantwerpen.be) in cc.
The University of Antwerp is a family friendly organization, with a focus on equal opportunities and diversity. Our HR-policy for researchers was awarded by the European Commission with the quality label HR Excellence in research.
We support the Science4Refugees initiative and encourage asylum-seeking, refugee scientists and researchers to apply for a job at the University of Antwerp.
