Doctoral assistant in the fields of French–Dutch translation and Translation Studies

Job description

  • You will contribute to teaching and research in the fields of French–Dutch translation and Translation Studies.
  • You will be assigned the following lecturing duties:
    • French language proficiency (BA1, 6 credits, partim written proficiency),
    • Translation French–Dutch 1 (BA2, 3 credits),
    • Translation French–Dutch 2 (BA3, 3 credits),
    • French: Specialised translation into Dutch (Master's in Translation, 3 credits).
  • You will also contribute to the course Research skills (BA2, 6 credits, partim).
  • You will supervise students who are writing their BA and MA theses.
  • You will compete to obtain externally funded research grants.
  • You will conduct interdisciplinary research in Translation Studies within the French language section.
  • Your research will be in line with the profile and vision of the Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies (TricS) research group.
  • You will contribute to the development of blended learning and technological didactic support at the department.

Profile and requirements

  • You hold (or will obtain during the application period) a doctorate (PhD) in Translation Studies, or in Linguistics or Literature with a clear Translation Studies component.
  • You have an excellent command of the French language in both its written and oral forms (at near-native level).
  • You are a native speaker – or equivalent – of Dutch and have an excellent command of Dutch, in both its written and oral forms.
  • You have demonstrable experience in research in Translation Studies and experience in translation practice is an asset.
  • Experience in teaching translation in higher education is an asset.
  • Experience in supervising BA and MA theses is an asset.
  • Experience in developing and carrying out research projects is an asset.
  • The focus in your teaching corresponds with the educational vision of the university.
  • Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy.
  • You are quality-orientated, conscientious, creative and cooperative.

We offer

  • an appointment as a doctoral assistant for a period of three years;
  • the date of appointment will be 1 October 2019;
  • a full-time gross monthly salary ranging from € 4.134,93 tot € 6.446,00;
  • a dynamic and stimulating work environment.
