PhD student / Bio-informatician in cancer genetics
You will perform research through bio-informatical analysis of “omics” data, with a focus on next generation sequencing and methylomics. You will analyse different datasets using various bio-informatic tools, with the final goal of understanding the complex biology of cancer and evaluate the potential of these data for the development of new biomarkers for early detection and therapy response. You will join an enthusiastic team, with an established and extensive international research network. In your daily work, you will work in close collaboration with the existing bioinformatics team at the Center for Medical Genetics. Besides that, you will also work in collaboration with clinicians providing patient samples and clinical expertise, as well as with laboratory-oriented researchers in cancer genetics that generate data and develop assays for your potential biomarkers in the lab.
You are (or soon will be) a master in bio-informatics. You have strong ICT skills and you are eager to fully submerge into the world of bio-informatics. You have good experience with Linux and one or more programming languages as well as knowledge of statistical methods of analysis. Candidates with a degree in one of the life sciences (Biomedical sciences, Biochemistry, Bio-engineering, Biostatistics, …), with strong and relevant experience in informatics are also welcome. A good background in human genetics and cancer biology is needed.
Proficiency in English, and strong communication skills, both oral and written, are required. You are highly motivated, and you like to work in an interactive research team. You are willing to work on a 4-year PhD project starting summer or fall 2019.
