Human Respiratory Syncytial Virus Molecular Biology, Pathogenesis, and Vaccine Development

Posted by: National Institutes of Health (NIH)

Posted date: 2019-Jul-12

Location: USA

Position Description:

The RNA Viruses Section of the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, NIAID, has strong basic and translational research programs for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and for parainfluenza and metapneumoviruses. Viral biology and host responses are studied in vitro (including in primary human epithelial cells), in animal models (including nonhuman primates), and in pediatric clinical trials of live attenuated vaccines in collaboration with industry.

We seek highly motivated postdoctoral researchers interested in topics in molecular virology—including cis- and trans-acting viral factors, host factors in viral infection, viral interference with innate and adaptive immunity—or in live attenuated vaccine development, vaccine vectors, and the pediatric immune response to RSV vaccines. Techniques include reverse genetics, advanced flow cytometry, NextGen sequencing, advanced microscope imaging, and antibody and cellular immune assays. The laboratory provides a rich training environment and access to cutting-edge techniques.

Visit Research Training at NIAID for more information about joining NIAID’s dynamic atmosphere!

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D. obtained within the last three years. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in virology or immunology (especially B-cell immunobiology). Previous experience in molecular and cellular biology is essential. Candidates should have a publication record in peer-reviewed journals. We are looking for candidates with excellent writing and communication skills, able to work independently and effectively with other members in a productive team.

To Apply:

Applicants should send a short statement of research goals, curriculum vitae, bibliography, and names and contact information of three references to Dr. Ursula J. Buchholz (ubuchholz(at)niaid.nih.gov).

Underrepresented minorities are especially encouraged to apply. NIH is dedicated to building a diverse community in its training and employment programs. HHS, NIH, and NIAID are equal opportunity employers committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
