The Faculty of Social Sciences is seeking to fill a full-time (100%) vacancy in the Department of Sociology for a
Doctoral Grant by the University Research Fund (BOF) in the area of the social sciences
The candidate will prepare a doctoral thesis on the political strategies and practices of civil society organisations in the context of marketization. The research will analyse how civil society organisations in their role and strategies of collective advocacy and drivers of political and societal change address the new context of the post-corporatist welfare state. This will be done through a mixed method design in which quantitative and qualitative research techniques are combined.
The researcher will work at the Centre for Environmental and Social Change (CRESC) at the University of Antwerp, but will be co-supervised by the department of Public Governance and Management at the University of Ghent. CRESC is a sociological research center that amongst others focuses on social exclusion, social work and local social policy and the political and societal role of civil society. The department of Public Governance and Management is linked to the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at UGent and carries out research on the relationship between government and civil society, inter-governmental relations and networks of organisations and co-production.
