Doctoral Grant (BOF), Particle Physics - 2019BAPDOCPROEX221Posted by: University of Antwerp
Posted date: 2019-Jul-18
The Faculty of Science is seeking to fill a full-time (100%) vacancy in the Department of Physics for a
Doctoral Grant by the University Research Fund (BOF) in the area of Particle Physics
The Particle Physics group of the University of Antwerp participates in the experimental study of fundamental interactions at large accelerators like the LHC at CERN, Geneva. As such, the group is presently involved in the CMS international collaboration and is active in the fields of Standard Model, Higgs and SUSY physics. These experimental activities are supported by theoretical studies specialising in advanced QCD factorisation and re-summation techniques and their uses in precision Standard Model physics and in searches for new physics beyond the Standard Model. This includes theoretical investigations of heavy-quark and jet physics, of parton distribution functions and parton showers, of production of heavy bosons both in the Standard Model and in extensions of the Standard Model. The successful candidate will contribute to this theoretical area of research, with a particular focus on developing QCD analytic and numerical methods to describe higher-order radiative corrections and nonperturbative contributions to processes of interest for the upcoming physics program at the LHC.
