HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to support the laboratory of Dr. Aviva Symes within the Department of Pharmacology located at the Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to the Department of Pharmacology.Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team. The incumbent will be part of a Department of Defense funded project, to study molecular mechanisms of blast injury on IPSC derived 3D-brain like cultures. Using advanced imaging and biochemical and genetic techniques, the project seeks to identify novel pathways and potential biomarkers for blast injury to the brain. The broad interests of the laboratory are the study of neuroinflammatory signaling after different forms of traumatic brain injury and the development of therapeutics and biomarkers to improve recovery.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience with tissue culture (particularly iPSCs), biochemical and molecular biology techniques, and confocal microscopy and be highly motivated to perform cutting edge, independent research.
