The Laboratory Neuroimaging (LNI, lab chief: Nora D. Volkow, MD), National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is seeking a highly motivated computer scientist/engineer to fill a Staff Scientist position. The laboratory is in the intramural program of the NIAAA at the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland, USA.
Our studies focus on investigating the neurobiological consequences of drugs/alcohol on the human brain including addiction with specific focus on understanding how they are influenced by sleep deprivation, circadian rhythms and co-morbid conditions such as ADHD and obesity. Scanning is carried out in dedicated PET and MRI research facilities at NIH, with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, students, engineers, and technologists. The main responsibilities of this position will be to implement, manage, and maintain an imaging database, including positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data, in conjunction with clinical and genetic data and to develop image processing and analytical pipelines. Candidates with a well-established track record of publications in the area of neuroscience, bioinformatics, or related field are encouraged to apply.Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, you must have a PhD degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Neuroscience or Psychology and 4+ years of experience in data science/big data analytics/data engineering, programming experience in fields such as mathematics, statistics, machine learning, data visualization, data structure and algorithms, or modeling. NIAAA’s ideal candidate would have experience with fMRI data analysis software packages such as AFNI, SPM, FSL, FreeSurfer, and Linux as well as programming skills with Matlab, python, C or IDL. Applicants should have good communication skills and an ability to work in a team as well as independently.
Candidates will be evaluated on their educational background, scholarly work, leadership and mentoring activities, and experience. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience as well as NIH guidelines. The position is available to be filled immediately.
