Doctoral scholarship holder in the area of temporomandibular dysfunctions and tinnitus
The research is performed within the research groups MOVANT https://www.uantwerpen.be/en/-research-groups/movant/ and Translational Neurosciences https://www.uantwerpen.be/en/research-groups/translational-neurosciences/ of the University of Antwerp, in close collaboration with the Ear-Nose-Throat Department, Head and Neck surgery of the University Hospital Antwerp.
It concerns research into temporomandibular dysfunctions (TMD) and tinnitus.
Tinnitus or ringing in the ears is a common complaint with varying causes. In some patients, this tinnitus may be related to a TMD. Previous research from our research group has shown that treating TMD can have beneficial clinical effects on tinnitus. Further research into the underlying correlation of TMD and tinnitus and into mechanisms of action of the therapy effect is needed.
The candidate is expected to help shape this research and compete for external funding.
