Postdoctoral Fellowship (developmental biology, stem cell biology, immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, other closely related life sciences)

Posted by: University of Pittsburgh

Posted date: 2012-Feb-03

Location: USA

A highly motivated individual with doctoral training in developmental biology, stem cell biology, immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or other closely related life sciences is being sought for a two year post doctoral position at the University of Pittsburgh, McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine. The ultimate goal of the laboratory is to develop techniques and materials that promote the regeneration and constructive remodeling of mammalian tissues and organs. There is a strong emphasis in the laboratory upon the use and mechanistic understanding of extracellular matrix and its constitutive molecules as an inductive scaffold that modulates fundamental processes in tissue development and tissue response to injury. Studies in the laboratory range from the investigation of the cell signaling mechanisms and cell:matrix interactions that direct cell migration, proliferation and differentiation to the biomechanical and pre-clinical studies that support clinical translation. There will be preference given to individuals with a background and experience in the role of macrophages and/or the innate immune system in response to various signaling molecules, and individuals with training in stem cell fate determination as it relates to the microenvironmental niche. The laboratory is part of the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine, which provides abundant opportunities for interaction with world experts in stem cell biology, biomechanics, immunology, and clinical medicine. The post-doctoral fellow will use techniques in immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry, microscopic and ultrastructural imaging, and cell biology to evaluate the mechanisms that promote the restoration of structurally and functionally normal tissues and organs. Strong English speaking and writing skills are absolute essentials, as well as a track record of first authorship for peer reviewed publications. Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in an appropriate field of biological or physical sciences. The candidate must be able to conduct independent research while collaborating with others in a large interdisciplinary laboratory. The initial appointment will be for one year with the intention of extending this position for an additional one or two years.

Qualified applicants should send a cover letter, C.V., and list of references to:
